Introduction of the school

The School of Energy and Mining Engineering is the college with the longest historyinChina University of Mining and Technology (Beijing). It is also the first-class subject construction school in mining engineering. The college consists of four departments: Department of intelligent mining engineering, Department of mining science and engineering, Department of resource science and engineering and Department of energy science and engineering. The college has a national experimental teaching demonstration center for coal mine safety and geological security, a national engineering practice education center and a Beijing off-campus talent training base.

Thisschoolis a construction support unit for the State Key Laboratoryof Coal Fine Exploration and Intelligent Development. It has three provincial and ministerial research platforms: Engineering Research Center of Green and Intelligent Mining for Thick Coal Seamsupported byMinistry of Education, Beijing Key Laboratory for Accurate Mining of Co-associated Energy,and Key Laboratory of Coal Mine Disaster Preventionsupported byMinistry ofEmergency Management. It has two engineering research centers in the coal industryontop-coal caving miningandroadway support and disaster prevention. It also hassuchresearch platformsasAdvanced Mining Research Institute, Mine Geotechnical Disaster Prevention Research Center, Sustainable Development and energy Policy Research Center.

The mining engineering subject in the school is a key construction subject in the area of the national "Project 211", "Project985 Innovation Platform" and "World First-Class Discipline Project", ranking first in the five consecutive roundsofnational subject evaluation. Ithas beenapprovedto carry on boththe"Green Intelligent Mining Theory and Technology Discipline" intellectual introduction project and "Green Intelligent and Safe mining of Coal Resources" innovative research group project of National Natural Science Foundation of China. The school has a mining engineering "Yangtze River Scholars" award program of special professors, postdoctoral research station in mining engineering;2 doctoral degree authorization in mining engineering,andresource development planning and design;1 doctoral degree authorization in resources and environment;3academic master degreeauthorization inMining Engineering, Resource Development Planning and design, New Energy Science and Engineering,andIndustrial Engineering and Management;2 professionalmaster degreeauthorization inMining Engineering,andIndustrial Engineering and Management. The school has four undergraduate majors: Intelligent Mining Engineering, Mining Engineering, New Energy Science and Engineering and Industrial engineering.

The school has a high-level faculty team with 58 staff members, including 51 full-time teachers. Among themthere are4 dual-employed academicians, 3 foreign academicians, 22 professors, 20 associate professors, 1 deputy researcher, 1 senior engineer, 6 lecturers,and1 engineer. More than 80% of themholdsenior professional titles. The teaching team in mining engineering has been selected as a "National University Huang Da-nian Teacher Team". The team for cultivating talents in mining engineering has been awarded as an excellent undergraduate cultivation team in Beijing universities.

The school possesses evident disciplinary advantages and has achieved significant teaching and research accomplishments. In recent years, it has been awarded nearly 170 science and technology awards at the provincial and ministerial levels, including 1 first prizeand2 second prizes for the National Science and Technology Progress Award;2 special prizes,20 first prizes, over 80 second prizes and over 60 third prizes for provincial and ministerial science and technology Progress Award. The school has undertaken over 80 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects such as the national "973" project, the National Key Research and Development Plan, the National Natural Science Foundation key project and over 400 projects funded by enterprises and public institutions. In the past five years, more than 200 millionRMBscientific research funds were received. Furthermore,More thana thousand academic papers includingoverseven hundred high-level papers such as SCI, EI and CSSCIpapers have been published. The school has been authorized more than one hundred national invention patents and more than 100 utility model patents, software copyrights, andover fifty academic monographshave been published.The school is dedicated to becoming a top-level research institution with outstanding faculty members, studies and achievements.

At present, the school has 1610 students, including 721 undergraduates, 655 postgraduate students (559 full-time, 96 part-time) and 234 doctoral students. Additionally, 24 doctoral studentshave been trained jointly withthe Coal Science Research Institute in China Coal Science and Technology Group. In the past five years, 22 people have been awarded the outstanding Communist Party members;4 people have been awarded the outstanding Party affairs workers;4 party branches have been awarded the advanced Party organizations; and1 Party branch has been awarded the "Beijing University Red 1+1" demonstration Party branch. It has won the titles of "May 4th Red Flag Youth League Committee" of the national coal industry, "Achieving Standards and Achieving Excellence" and "Red Flag Youth League Committee" of the Beijing Communist Youth League. It has won the Excellent organization award of the Beijing "Achieving Standards and Achieving Excellence" competition;5 league branches have won the "Beijing Advanced League Branch";3 league branches have won the "May 4th Red Flag" advanced League branch of the Communist Youth League;11 league branches have won the "Beijing Pioneer Cup" advanced League branch;5 won the Beijing "Pioneer Cup" excellent league members;5 won the Beijing "Three Good Students";5 won the "Beijing Excellent Student Cadres";6 won the "Beijing Excellent Youth League Cadres";2 won the honor of engineering master's degree winner with outstanding contributions; and1 won the "Advanced Worker of Capital College Students' Summer Social Practice". The school won 4 awards including "China College Students' Internet+Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition", "Challenge Cup" and other national awards. The schoolalsowon 37 provincial and ministerial level awards, 14 national competition awards, 33 provincial and ministerial level competitions awards, 68 professional association level competitions awards. The undergraduate students published 33 academic papers, 6 invention patents and utility model patents. The school encourages graduates to actively pursue further studies and find jobs at the grass-roots level of the industry. The rate of graduate studies and the number of graduates studying abroad increased year by year (the rate of graduate studies in 2021 reaches 66.71%). The employment rate is stable at more than 97%. Many graduates won honors such as "National Outstanding College Graduates of Coal Mine Construction", "National Youth post Expert", "Outstanding Communist Party Members of Qinghai Province" and "Guizhou May 1st Labor Medal".
